Hope for Heroes: Holiday Gifts for Ukraine’s Fallen Defenders’ Children

Hope for Heroes: Holiday Gifts for Ukraine’s Fallen Defenders’ Children

Two weeks before Christmas, a breakfast meeting at Trident Group Ukraine sparked an extraordinary mission. A ground‐team member grew tearful discussing how many children would spend the holiday without a parent after the war. He remembered that two years earlier he and friends had raised money to buy gifts for 200 such children, and how “the faces of the children” when receiving those presents moved him deeply. Inspired by this story, the CEO declared that Trident Group Ukraine would ensure no hero’s child was forgotten. He named the initiative Hope for Heroes, mobilized the team, and—together with allies like the U.S.-based R.T. Weatherman Memorial Fund and the Ukrainian Headquarters of International Diplomacy—launched an urgent fundraising drive. In just two weeks they raised nearly $30,000 and prepared gifts for 1,300 children of fallen service members. The campaign organizers called this success “a miracle” and pledged to make it an annual effort.

    Campaign Goals and Results

The official fundraising page for Hope for Heroes makes its purpose clear: “Christmas Gifts for the Children of Fallen Defenders.” By the campaign’s end it had raised $29,410 from 143 supporters—98% of its $30,000 goal. These funds were used to purchase, wrap, and deliver holiday packages to each of the 1,300 children, which likely included toys, books, warm clothes, and sweets. Thanks to this outpouring of support, organizers report that every child of a fallen Ukrainian hero in the targeted communities received a gift this year. The overwhelming response shows how far a dedicated team can stretch resources in a short time.

    Looking Ahead

The 2024 Hope for Heroes campaign has shown how much can be accomplished when businesses, nonprofits, and volunteers unite behind a heartfelt goal. The Trident Group Ukraine team has vowed to make it a yearly tradition. By ensuring each child of a fallen defender receives a gift and a message of support, the campaign sends a powerful message: our heroes are not forgotten, and their families are not alone.

As one local official put it in a similar effort, “we want to give the children of our Heroes a bright mood and sincere presents” and continue supporting children whose parents gave their lives for independence. Hope for Heroes carries this spirit forward. This Christmas, thanks to the dedication of many and the generosity of donors, thousands of war-bereft children will have holiday memories filled with warmth and care.
